Jason Kander, the democratic Missouri candidates for the US Senate, held a rally at Truman State University Nov.7, the day before the National Election.
Over 80 people came and attended the rally held in the Down Under of the Student Union Building. Kander used the rally as way to talk to students and residents of Kirksville about going on and voting on Nov. 8. He focused on talking about ways for people to volunteer and talk to others about voting.

“I think, when you look around, the momentum in this room, the excitement in this room,” Kander said. “These folks, as you can see, are grabbing materials to knock on door and make phone calls and that clearly makes a difference. But we’re very confident that we’re going to win this race tomorrow.”
Kander was not the only democrat to attend and talk at the rally. Russ Carnahan, candidate for Lieutenant Governor, and Judy Baker, the candidate for Treasurer. The two candidates took the time to remind the younger voters in the crowd that their future was at stake in the election. One man in the crowd said while Carnahan spoke, “Preach on Russ.”

Andy Mangrum, president of Truman College Democrats, said that this rally was important as it reminded voters that there is more than one election in the National election. He said this was not Kander’s only event of the day as well. He said Kander wanted to try and meet as many people as he could so he could hear their concerns and ask questions.
“I see the politicians,” Mangrum says. “I see the ones who are the good guys. I see the ones who are – they are doing it for a good cause, but boost their own self-interest, but Jason Kander is someone who he really just shows that he cares about what he is doing and that’s just really inspiring to someone like me, who sees it every day, but Jason’s the one who stands out.”
After hearing Kander speak, many students like Allyson Lotz felt very confident and inspired by their choice of candidate.

“They were definitely, like, very sure of themselves,” Lotz said. “They definitely knew what they were talking about. Thy knew what they were doing and that’s, like, very comforting to know that I am voting for people who are going to do a great job in office after tomorrow.”
The election results for Missouri are not yet available at this time.
